Our CSI Intiatives

Kasi Career Expo is a township based education and development intervention that aims to inspire and unlock the full potential of students in disadvantaged areas. We help these learners find their ideal roles across the country by connecting them to recruiters, funders and mentors at top local and international organisations; providing them with tools to support them along their career journeys. Recognised as the 2016 ‘Best Emerging Township Event contributing to Local Economic Development’ by the Department of Tourism and City of Tshwane’; the annual exhibition is the largest and most comprehensive township based career and education platform in South Africa. Launched in 2015 across 3 provinces, this annual event was endorsed by the Department of Basic Education and attracted over 48 diverse African / Global brands.

Our initiative is in direct response to the National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS) goal 4.8: “Building career and vocational guidance” as it has proved to be a critical component in skills development. The lack of career guidance especially in township and rural areas has a direct, negative impact on the future of young people. NSDS goal 4.8 thus emphasises that career paths must be "mapped to qualifications in all sectors and sub-sectors, and communicated effectively, contributing to improved relevance of training and greater mobility and progression".

In 2015/16 we managed to place over 400 young learners into learnership / internship programmes. We also use our in-house expertise and industry and government partnerships; to invest in community based NGOs who are committed to the social and educational development for youth and provide support services that are crucial to ensure the academic success of learners. Our communication initiative therefore aims to bridge the gap that exists between the high rates of unemployment statistics among black youth in South Africa, and the number of dedicated programs available both within the private and government sector. The Kasi Career Expo therefore also provides a credible mechanism for companies wanting to invest in education to invest their resources in a program that impacts the neediest of our society.
